MENTOR, ROLE MODEL, FRIEND Building Community Through Buddy Programs “Hey, there’s my buddy!” exclaims Grade 2 student Mante joyfully as he bounds across the plaza handing his Grade 12 buddy the elaborately hand-drawn card he’s made for him, bringing the year-long program to a close. At SSIS, cross-divisional buddy programs are an integral part of fostering our sense of community. And thanks to the fact that we all share one campus, students have the opportunity to spend a lot of time with their buddies. Bridging the gaps between divisions promotes a more tolerant and inclusive environment. Older students become mentors and are able to develop their empathetic leadership skills. Younger students have someone to look up to who is not a teacher or sibling. Despite the age differences, students quickly realize that they can learn from each other. And that they have a lot in common. Like a shared love of ice cream! ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SAIGON SOUTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL | 7 | ViewBook ViewBook | 8 | SAIGON SOUTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
