Inspired to make lasting changes in their environment, Grade 7 Green Analysts have taken their newfound knowledge of plastics to heart to make noticeable, sustainable changes in our community. During their project-based learning unit, Green Analysts, Grade 7 students visit a waste management plant. Prompted by learning how plastics impact our environment, students use their knowledge to work with local businesses to become greener. One year, students turned their sights inward, taking on our SSIS cafe to ensure that we Dragons lead by example. Honing their business development skills, students worked closely with our catering company to develop sustainable ideas and policies. The result? Students can delight in sipping smoothies from environmentally sustainable cups, using eco-straws, or get a discount for bringing their own bottle. And just like that, our students learn that they have the agency to become the change they want to see.
