Third-graders jump with glee as they witness forces in action; their water rocket soaring high into the air. The excitement is nothing short of an actual lunar mission! As a part of the first of four “Super Units,” the integrated units of study that guide students’ learning through our elementary school, their water rocket project launches third-graders successfully into the beginning of the year. This project is only one of many ways we get students excited about foundational skills like math and literacy, as they begin crafting questions and making predictions about the world around them. This first Super Unit, “Teamwork, Dream Work,” is all about learning how to work together effectively. In teams, the students study forces and interactions as a part of their integrated science unit and ask testable questions about forces and motion. Finally, students have the opportunity to collect data to support their predictions - three, two, one...blast off! LAUNCHING STUDENTS’ SUCCESS!
