Questions to Ask your Child Home Learning Suggested Home Extensions Key Vocabulary and Phrases erstanding diverse perspectives can make us stronger. ● What communities are you a part of? ● Who are the different members of the school community you have engaged with today? ● What are some ways we can safely engage with other people? ● How can you show empathy with _____ (a member of the family)? ● How can we strengthen our community? ● What fairy tale did you read today or this week? What culture was it from? What was the lesson that was learned? ● What emotions did you feel today (go deeper than happy, sad, mad)? What caused those emotions? ● Talk with your child about the various groups and communities you are part of. ● Go to the library and check out books that help you learn about the different roles within a community and also about empathy: ○ Books about history & culture ○ Fairy Tales from different cultures and different languages ● Engage with family members: parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, maids, and helpers to further develop a strong home community. ● Read a book together and talk about the different perspectives of the characters. ● Share your favorite fairy tale or folktale from your childhood with your child. Take your family on a trip around the city. Observe different people doing different roles. Discuss what you see: ● Do you think that people’s background can influence the way they see the world? Take time to engage with someone at home that helps you (e.g. maid, driver etc.). Make an information page that: ● Informs about who that person is (e.g. come from, family members, hobbies etc.). ● Shows appreciation for that person’s contribution to your life. - Perspective - Compassion - “Walking in someone else’s shoes.” - Kaleidoscope - Point of view - “Seeing through the eyes of others.” - Diversity - Engage - “Empathising with others.” - Culture - Connection - Empathy - Contribute - Fairy Tale - Moral
