Science : Interdependent relationships in ecosystems; biodiversity; learning how an organism’s life is sustained when changes happen to its environment; classifying organisms. Math : Geometry and Attributes; Measuring and collecting data about plants, Graphing. Social Studies : Understanding how wants and needs have implications beyond the self; Cause and effect relationships. English : Research skills and informational writing; students will write a research report on their chosen organism. Technology : Using technology for research notes and organization. Art : Observational research/drawing. Drawing skills for drawing the organisms they are researching. Students will create their own combination creatures based on speculative zoology. Library : Research skills; Using Britannica and the non-fiction section to locate information. Sourcing animal images responsibly using Britannica Image Quest. Drama : Performing fables from around the world. Connections and lessons we can learn from the animal world. Music : Connecting with key vocabulary through songs that relate to sustainability and habitat, and understanding how instrument construction affects sustainability in certain environments. . PE : Games based on animals and their habitats. Super Unit Launch : At the field biology skills workshop, learners will be introduced to the skills and tools that field biologists / naturalists use by learning from several experts in our community. Field Trip : Students will take a day trip to Can Gio Mangroves to observe flying foxes, large birds, the mangrove forest, and more. Parent volunteers are welcome on this fun and exciting trip. Project: Students will research an organism native to Vietnam, using media, inquiry, and observation. They will share their learning in an informational report, as well as create an organism sustainability project to showcase at our Habitat Chat.
